Zooming Across the Pacific to mark HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day

On Sunday 5 June, to mark HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day (HLTSAD) 2022, Living Positive Victoria and Thorne Harbour Health dialled in to chat with the HIV Long Term Survivors International Network.

“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that 50% of people with HIV [in the U.S] are older than 50 years and account for 70% of total deaths among people with HIV.”
The Lancet, February 23, 2022

Addressing this year’s theme, “Mobilize To Thrive: Prioritizing Quality Of Life”, we zoomed across the Pacific to share lived experience from members of our community in Australia and abroad.

The conversation starts in Melbourne, winds its way up the eastern coast through Lismore and traverses the Pacific Ocean with a stop-over in Malaysia as we continue all the way to United States of America.

This is a compelling dialogue between HIV Long Termers. It’s raw. It’s honest. It’s personal and community. There’s even a smidgeon of politics. At times it’s serious and at other times we just have a good laugh. Above all, it’s an incredibly insightful view into the world of people living with HIV long term.
