Living Positive Victoria: Ageing with HIV Peer Support Network

Are you over 50 and in charge of your health and wellbeing? Let the HIV & Ageing project show you how.

A monthly and informal peer support group gathering for people in Melbourne and regional Victoria. It is a safe, social and educational format utilising an empowerment model and builds resilience and health literacy for participants to engage with health and aged care providers.

It also improves self-advocacy, develops skills to disclose HIV status, deal with stigma and discrimination, and builds peer networks. Peer group meetings are participant-led to ensure meeting the group’s needs. Content includes improving treatments literacy, managing medication for multiple health conditions, legal matters, Advanced Care planning, as well as diet, exercise, cognitive health and computer literacy.

The project will train volunteer peer facilitators to better enhance peer-led solutions, as well as sustainability of support networks.
